Trying to name the most iconic venue of all-time should be harder than it is. Because it’s The Apollo Theater in Harlem
It’s hosted every major Black musician and comedian that’s come through pop-culture since the Harlem Renaissance. And Black music forms the foundation of American music. And American music has, for better or worse, defined global musical culture since the Rolling Stones first heard Muddy Waters. Who played at the Apollo, by the way. The venue’s legacy is an inspiring tour-de-force in the against-all-odds resilience of the Black community. That’s why CONVICTS was so honored to partner with The Apollo Theater on a short film about The Apollo’s entirely unique place in the Harlem community.
