No time or place defined the strange, apocalyptic chapter known as 2020 like New York City in the COVID spring. With thousands of cases and deaths, overwhelmed resources and a population in lockdown, New York City went from a beacon of light to a city of darkness.

Yet there were glimmers of hope.

From the delivery workers to the cashiers and pharmacists who kept the city on life support, the city’s everyday heroes rose to the occasion of a lifetime. But if many New Yorkers formed the city’s life support system, it was the courageous few who healed us: the city’s medical workers. They went into mortal uncertainty every single day. Literally, facing death for the rest of us. CONVICTS partnered with Mt. Sinai Hospital, one of NYC’s largest healthcare providers, to produce this film about the deeply human trials and tribulations of the healthcare workers on the frontline. Using carefully controlled shooting methods (equipping nurses with GoPros, extensive sanitation and quarantining), we collected footage from the ER to the bedside in a place that felt less like a hospital and more like a battlefield.
